The BJP has made an early start in a seat it did not hold. In the first round of counting for the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates' constituency, 6,999 ballots were counted: the BJP's Ashok Kumar Rathore received 3,291 votes and the Samajwadi Party's Dr Man Singh Yadav, the sitting MLC, 2,307. Independent Shivshankar Patel was third with 486.

| Total counted | 6,999 | 100% |
Figures as reported at 9:33 pm. Some reports earlier in the evening had suggested the SP was ahead; the first-round figures show the BJP in front. The split between other candidates and invalid ballots for this round was not reported.
One round of many
Round 1 covers only about 6% of the 1,09,392 ballots cast. Because ballots from all polling stations are mixed before counting in Council elections, early rounds are generally a cross-section of the constituency rather than one district's votes — so a 14-point lead is a meaningful early signal. But with 13 candidates, if nobody crosses the quota (half the valid votes plus one) on first preferences, the result will turn on transfers from eliminated candidates. Rathore's 47% of all ballots counted in round 1 puts him close to that line.
Where the votes came from: Bundelkhand vs Prayagraj
The constituency spans 10 districts — Prayagraj, Kaushambi and Fatehpur, and the Bundelkhand districts of Chitrakoot, Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Jalaun and Lalitpur. Of its 2,64,233 graduate electors, 1,09,392 voted (41.40%). Turnout was sharply higher in Bundelkhand than in Prayagraj:
That pattern matters: before the count, Dr Man Singh Yadav was counting on his home base in Prayagraj, where turnout was the lowest at 32.86%, while Ashok Kumar Rathore was banking on Bundelkhand, where Mahoba (55.77%), Jalaun (54.75%) and Jhansi (49.43%) voted in much larger numbers.
Counting-day allegations
In the afternoon, SP candidate Dr Man Singh Yadav alleged that BJP workers posing as agents of dummy candidates had entered the counting centre wearing saffron scarves, calling it a violation of the model code. The allegation had not been independently verified, and no official response was reported.
What's at stake
The Allahabad-Jhansi graduates' seat is one of the two graduates' seats the SP held going into this election. A BJP win here would be a gain from the SP and, together with its Meerut wins, would make the graduates' results — usually the best measure of educated, younger voters — a clear success for the ruling party.
